What Man Utd’s Starting XI Should Be

With the arrival of Juan Mata, it looks as if Moyes is switching from a traditional 4-4-2 to a more contemporary 4-2-3-1 with 3 floating Attacking Midfielders. 4-4-2 is great when you have world class wingers such as Ronaldo and an Inform Nani with clinical finishers such as Rooney and Tevez up top. However United’s wing play in recent times has been lacking with Nani now only consistent at being inconsistent, Valencia playing perhaps the most predictable wing play I have seen in years in a Red shirt and Ashley Young, who seems to be in the wrong sport at the moment. Kagawa is consistently played out wide when he is exclusively a No.10. The only bright spark out wide has been Januzaj, who has been mesmerising at times and has had to occasionally carry the team over the finishing line as he did against Sunderland earlier this season with 2 spectacular goals. However the cracks have been showing and he is yet not ready for a regular spot as his recent diving antics have shown. I think the 18 year old is a fantastic future prospect and must be used carefully. A new 5 year deal has been signed which should ensure his stay at Old Trafford for years to come.

Our line up should be as follows with a fully fit squad:

De Gea

Rafael   Jones  Evans   Evra

Carrick    Fletcher

Mata   Rooney   Kagawa

RVP

GK: De Gea (This is a no brainer. The Spanish shot stopper has been a consistent performer for us and his mistake at Sunderland in the league cup was his first of the season)

RB: Rafael (The Brazilian fullback is our first choice RB and has great crossing ability and is also not the easiest to beat. Perhaps more discipline is still required as was shown against Chelsea when he could have been sent off in the dying ember of the game)

CB: The solid Serbian. Vicic had been a rock at the back over the years however age had started to catch up with him and the 21 year old Phil Jones would be ensured a regular startingvspot in his preferred CB position.

CB: Evans ( The young Northern Irishman is great at reading the game and however could still learn a lot from his more experienced partner. He would be ideally rotated with Smailing who has a commanding stature in defence and has proven to be a great header of the ball)

LB: Evra (The French captain has been a great servant over the years and remains a potent goal threat through set peices however he is not getting any younger and defensive errors are becoming more common. Buttner has not yet proven his worth as a long term replacement)

CM: Carrick, Fletcher (Both are excellent readers of the game and are both great passers of the ball. Carrick last season proved his quality as he controlled the tempo of the game. Fletcher who has just come out of long term illness could be rotated with Fellani who is good at breaking up the play. This would be effective specially against sides who like to have lots of possession such as Swansea and Arsenal)

Floating 3: Mata, Rooney and Kagawa (All ideally No.10’s and would be an attacking trio that could match any other. Interchanging positions and quick passing and link up play would provide us the fluidity that we have been craving for over the past couple of seasons. Rotation among the 3 with Januzaj would see us control games in the final third and when necessary stretch play and unlock the tightest of defenses)

ST: RVP (The Dutch forward is a goal threat whenever he is on the pitch as he showed last season winning the golden boot last season. His technical ability is phenomenal and so is his finishing. Rotation with Hernandez and Welbeck would see United amass a forward line that can match any other in the world.)

  1. I personally would look to adapt Man Utd into playing 41212 for now with De Gea, Rafa, Vidic, Jones, Evra, Carrick, Valencia/Nani RM, Januzaj/Kagawa LM, Mata CAM, Rooney and RVP upfront. However, I’m sure there’s flaws to this, it’s just an opinion haha

Also, would be great if you check out my blogs too 🙂

    • I would love to see United play that however personally can’t see Carrick playing there in the lone CM/CDM position. He doesnt tackle or break up play enough. Fellani maybe?

I really appreciate the feedback!:) Will definetly check out yours too!
