Liverpool vs Arsenal Player Ratings

liverpool-vs-arsenal-preview

The match at Anfield ended with Liverpool the dominant and deserving victors at 5 – 1. The following are the player ratings for this decisive match.

Arsenal

Szczesney – 5 (The Polish goalkeeper was helpless and although did make a couple of good saves was completely deserted by his defenders.)

Sagna- 3 (Wait, he actually played? He was one of the many Arsenal players that just did not turn up today.)

Mertesacker – 3 (Per’s shortcomings such as his lack of pace were for all the world to see as Liverpool’s trio of Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling ran rings around him. There were not many aeriel duels today either thus he could not use his stature to his. A day to forget. )

Koscielny – 3 (He prides himself on his reading of the game, his ability to close down players and win aeriel duels however today, all anyone could see was how slow he was! Him and Per have to be one of the slowest CB partnerships in the league. A day to forget and recover from. The road ahead is not any easier either with Man Utd, Liverpool (again) and Bayern Munich still to face.)

Monreal – 3 SUBBED OFF 61′ (A lack of attacking threat from him and a lack of communication with his fellow defenders left his flank open to Liverpool’s mercy.)

Gibbs -5 SUBBED ON 61′ (Closed people down really well to keep up the pressure and was much more effective than Monreal, offensively and defensively.)

Arteta – 4 (Failed to hold possession and control the game during the decisive early period as his team crumbled around him. He also failed to provide any sort of protection for his fragile defense leaving them exposed! He was another player who did not show up however he still had the nerve to tuck home the consolation penalty goal.)

Wilshere – 5 (A decent game from the English midfielder. He was the only one who looked up to the task as he put himself about and made some meaty challenges and really unleashed some of the fire in his belly. His duels with Coutinho and Gerrard were great to watch. He also made some great passes however no one was on the other end to make anything of them.)

Ozil – 3 SUBBED OFF 61′ (Sloppy in possession failed to track runners and a liability in possession. Let down his team with his lack of ability to turn up to the big games. He is in a rut.)

Rosicky – 4 SUBBED ON 61′ (Not a hugely influential substitution. He did help keep Arsenal’s play neat and tidy however again a lack of penetration was quite noticeable!)

Oxlade Chamberlain – 6 (Was the only decisive bright spark along with Wilshire that invigorated the Arsenal team. Started off attacks and did make a few opportunities for himself. Lack of end product though!)

Cazorla – 3 (You could barely tell he played the game. His only real contribution was a decent free kick that was saved.)

Giroud – 4 SUBBED OFF 60′ (Poor game for the Frenchman however this was mainly due to a lack of service from the players behind him.)

Podolski 4 SUBBED ON 60′ (Failed to make any real impact on the game however the German did help Arsenal regain some possession sometimes in the second half. Nothing decisive though.)

Liverpool

Mignolet 7 – (Good game made a couple of good saves specially against the Cazorla free kick)

Cissokho – 7 (Good solid defensive display however nothing spectacular in attack. Great game defensively for him)

Toure – 8 (Solid defensive display and made no silly mistakes today. He seems to have learnt his lesson and the experienced defender helped nullify any Arsenal threat.)

Skirtel – 9 ( What a superb performance from the CB! Won aerial duels and was effective at both ends of the pitch. Some superb last ditch tackles and some superb attacking stints in the opponents box to get him his two goals! Shame he could not keep the clean sheet as this was as near to a perfect performance as he can get!)

Flanagan – 8 (Had a solid defensive display today however his ability on the ball and his ability to distribute play was most impressive. His passing today was superb and has progressed through the academy to really earn his place in the team)

Gerrard – 8 SUBBED OFF 76′ (Pressed the Arsenal players denying them room and started off attacks with his usual great passing. His deliveries from set pieces were stunning and caused the Arsenal defense all sorts of problems! He’s adapted o his new CDM role well. Silly penalty to give away though.)

Ibe – 5 SUBBED ON 76′ (Looks comfortable on the ball and has the confidence to shoot. Still very young and a one to keep an eye on for the future.)

Henderson – 7 (Good game from the midfielder. He has progressed well this season however he had a great opportunity to score himself. He helped control the tempo of the game today.)

Coutinho -8 ( What a great game frm the 21 year old Brazillian! Outshone Ozil by miles and made some great oppurtunites for himself and his team mates. Great passing range and trickery and the creativity to match is ambition.)

Sterling – 9 (What pace he has! Superb speed to embarrass his opponents, specially the Arsenal CB’s. Tracked when necessary and was an attacking threat the whole game. Deserved his two goals today and perhaps should have scored another for his hat trick!)

Sturridge – 8 SUBBED OFF 66′ (Great game as he linked up with Sterling and Suarez and interchanged seamlessly with the to cause all kinds of problems. A calm and collected finish for his goal.)

Joe Allen – 6 SUBBED ON 66′ (As Arsenal started to get a hold of the ball he was there to beef up Liverpool’s midfield and provide some extra cover for his defense and help his side control the game.)

Suarez- 8 SUBBED OFF 85′ (Was Liverpool’s greatest attacking threat. He is truly a special player. Made some superb runs and passes however his volley was truly the goal the got away as it struck the bar. Not on the score sheet surprisingly however did bag himself an assist. Liverpool showed real desire to hold onto him during the summer and it is paying dividence now.)

Aspas – N/A SUBBED ON 85′ (Not on long enough to judge)

My Man Of The Match was Skirtel but who was yours?
