Manchester United Offer Louis Laing, Once Dubbed The ‘Next John Terry’ A Trial


Manchester United have taken Sunderland U-21 defender Louis Laing on trial, after the youngster was informed he would not be offered a new contract.

The stylish, ball playing centre back who was was once dubbed the ‘Next John Terry’, was one of England’s brightest defensive prospects, when he was offered a professional contract in 2009.

However injuries at crucial stages of his development and a succession of managers have resulted in the 21 year old only making one senior appearance for Sunderland, that as a substitute in an end of season encounter vs Wolves.

Louis was a regular for the Sunderland U-18’s however injuries have meant U-21 appearances, have been few and far between. Despite this the youth star has represented England at every youth level from U-16 to U-19.

The youngsters release alerted a host of clubs including Blackburn Rovers where Louis enjoyed a training stint earlier this month.

Manchester United however have offered Luois a trial and he traveled with the U-21 squad as they faced Reading U-21. The youngster will be hoping to impress and join the club on a more permanent basis.
